Giant Barracuda

Posted August 27, 2008

Days like yesterday do make our job a great great job. Even though we ended up just catching few fish, there was plenty of action on the Katfish for everyone to enjoy.

These last few days there had been plenty of currents on our usual anchoring spots, however yesterday the current seemed to stop. After catching the usual small fish, we used these as live bait, and a very nice four kilo atlantic bonito took a bite pretty soon. However, as it got closer to the boat, we noticed that it was being chased by a pretty big shark that got everyone excitted. Sadly the shark must have realised that something dogdy was going on as he gave up after a minute or two. About an hour later, a very experienced italian client had the bite of the day: a 10 kilo barracuda that gave a really good fight but managed released itself just as I was approaching the gaff to get it. On the way back to the harbour, trolling, we did manage to catch another atlantic bonito which was not as big as the one in the morning but was also good fun.
